Two hundred and fifty years to the day since fifty-six men put their names to a document in Philadelphia, a Tucson plumber bolted the front half of his service van to a wooden pallet in the grass of a park one town north. Crossroads at Silverbell District Park is where the wooden van with the cutout windshield would park. And on July 4th, 2026, Paul Samorano of Imperial Plumbing posed for a photo with his displayed wooden van and his plumbing booth at Marana's Star-Spangled Spectacular.

The van never moved all evening. It didn't have to. It sat there with its windshield cut out so that anyone could climb in, grab a wheel that wasn't there, and take the photo home. Kids, parents, grandparents.

A few feet away, the rest of the booth did its quiet work. A prize wheel with segments handwritten in marker: candy, a small toy, a free water heater flush. An iMac offering anyone who stopped a shot at a $150 steak dinner. A game controller hooked to something the team built themselves: a Pac-Man-style game where, instead of chasing dots, you race around the maze unclogging drains.

America 250 Years in the Making

Around all of it, the Town of Marana threw its largest Signature Event of the year. Live music from ZNORA, the Mark Miller Band, and, new this year, the Manhattan Dolls. A splash pad and playground, a gaming truck, a community mural, inflatables, water games, cornhole, and dozens of food trucks. Most of Continental Ranch simply walked over.

The same thing was happening that evening in towns across the country. That's the part that made this July 4th different. A nation only turns two hundred and fifty once, and Marana's corner of it filled a park to mark the moment.

Local Plumber Supporting Local Events

Nobody comes to a fireworks show thinking about plumbing, and honestly, that was fine with us.

Yes, there was a giveaway. Yes, there were koozies and wristbands on the table. We're a business, and we won't pretend otherwise. But the reason to be there was simpler than any of that: these are the streets we work on. The houses beyond that park are houses we've been inside. Under the sinks, behind the water heaters. Standing on the grass with the people who live in them, on a night like this one, just felt like where we belonged.

Thank you to the Town of Marana for putting on the Star-Spangled Spectacular, and to every neighbor who stopped by, spun the wheel, climbed into the van, or just said hello. Happy 250th, America.

We'll see you around the neighborhood.

Happy 250th Birthday, America!
